Physical books are still sold to retailers at wholesale prices. Ebooks however have a different model championed at least initially by Apple to 'break Amazon's monopoly hold' where the publisher sets the price at which their ebooks will be sold.. Retailers have no leeway to change prices. Blame Apple and those ebook publishers if you wish. :P
