On my Nook STR, it tells you how many pages are left in the current chapter. Pages don't necessarily translate to screen-refreshes, I think it's a certain number of bytes per page. So the page number changes every two or three page-refreshes, depending on the size of the font.
I think it's very useful, because I do like to know, before I read a chapter, how long it is and whether I can reach the end of it in the time I have. Like, if I have fifteen minutes to read, I might not want to start a 35-page chapter. A 5-page chapter, on the other hand, is fine.
