I agree with you.
On a good month I get 21 days of battery life, but that's without much reading.
Most of the time I get about 14 days of battery with regular reading of between 2 and 4 hours per day.

Concerning PDF's, there's not much more that can change. PDF's are basically established, and they won't see much changes, unless you're talking about integrating video in a file, which will be impossible, and silly on an e-ink device (as well as on printed paper).

The Kindle DX is at it's end of it's life cycle (about to be phased out, and no more support for upgrades), the JBC is at it's beginning. They're expected to still create firmware that will fully make use of the wireless features, as well as menu structure improvements, and file format compatibility and bug fixes.
