Sigh. Just had another customer who wanted to return something he hadn't bought at our store.
We're seeing more and more of this lately. Mostly with products as light switches, electrical outlets, dimmer switches, etc. If you point out that we don't sell the brand they're trying to return or, if we do sell that brand, we don't sell them in blister packaging, which is a typical DIY store packaging, they often get angry and rude.
I think they're trying this for two reasons. First, they have lost/thrown away the receipt and they think we're easier with taking items back without a receipt than the DIY store. And/or they think they can get more money back because they think we're more expensive than a DIY store, which often isn't the case.
We're also seeing an increase in people who buy the same items at a DIY store but don't know how to install them and the shop assistants of those stores don't know either so they come to our store to ask how to do it. Our typical response to that is that we don't know, even if we sell exactly the same itemsl
