I use SwiftKey x on both my Vox and my Galaxy Tab, and it is definitely easier to type on the 7" Vox than the 10" Tab. The Vox is slower though...
I would suggest a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 (16 gb) which is $100 off right now at Future Shop and Best Buy at $249.99 until June 21st.
It has a lot of extras the Vox doesn't have such as front & rear cameras, Bluetooth, Play Store access for apps, microphone, GPS and it also like the Vox allows you to expand your memory with a micro-sd card up to 32 gb. The processor is 1.2 Ghz instead of only 800 mhz. For a bit more, I think you'd have a writing tool + much more in extra features so you wouldn't feel the need to upgrade too soon.
Of course, once the Galaxy Tab is back at full price, then it's another story and the Vox price-wise is good value for the money. It's at $169.99 right now at Best Buy. But only for this weekend...
