I also had a pop up on my Kindle Touch one day saying that the SO had been removed. Mine never did really go away. The interesting part is that my first kindle went bad and I shipped it back to Amazon. That was just a couple weeks prior to the notice.
Maybe related to them removing the old device from my account.
