Many a MBA would argue, often justifiably, that the two are closely related.

For Amazon (and B&N as well), the reading device is much more than a piece of electronics, it is an ecosystem that ties and binds you. In that power, there is great profit.

Is the profit greater than what they'd realize by letting go of the format? I don't know.
