I would strongly recommend ALWAYS using the "Safely Remove Hardware" function before unplugging. Both "drives" of the Gen3 should should up on the same line of the "Safely Remove Hardware" list, as something like:

Safely remove USB Mass Storage Devices - Drives (F:,G: )
