Poohbear guessed correctly. James Patterson sold 1.14 million ebooks by July 6th 2010.
At the time there was no single monitoring system to rank ebook sales so Hachette contacted other prominent authors and found no others passed the million mark. However, later that July Amazon announced that they sold more than a million copies of Stieg Larsson's titles for the Kindle. Add in his other sales outlets and it is possible he beat Patterson.
