This thread keeps popping up and I wish I had a book I lied about so that I can contribute. I have no problem saying I haven't read a book.
Cards on the other hand -- birthday, anniversay, etc -- I always say I've read but I almost never do.
I open them up to look for handwritten notes, and skim to get the gist, but I don't spend much time on them.
