It should not be that far off in the future, let the two KT terminal projects mature a bit more.

I read that JF is considering making that terminal emulator a "tabbed" multi-terminal emulator.

Maybe the other one (running under X11 graphic system) will "grow tabs" someday also.

Both would be a "tabbed" solution - I am guessing this will be easier than trying to get a multi-window, desktop (KindleTop) management system working.

The Tizen (/Samsung) project is using Enlightenment as its multi-window manager: http://www.enlightenment.org/
I imagine, stripped down a bit, but at least it is something common.

You can add e17 to your Ubuntu/Debian installation (apt-get install e17) and then when you have the greeter showing for you to login, you can select the e17 desktop.
There are a number of different "greeters" but almost all of them have a "session type" selection thingy somewhere on them.
