Which was also interesting, although more MilSF than the first. And it did have its own story arc with beginning, middle and a sort of end. Not quite as self-contained as the first, but it doesn't have a cliff-hanger ending.

And now I'm going to re-read The Lord of the Rings. I've finally got around to watching my set of the extended edition DVDs, and I've got irritated again by all the changes to the characters, many of whom behave in ways that I thought they didn't in the book (particularly Théoden, Fangorn and Faramir). So I need to re-read to check that it's the film that's distorting them, and not my memory!

And I find I need to re-download my copy, as it seems I didn't update after the initial typos were fixed. Luckily it's still downloadable (but not to new purchasers) from Fictionwise.
