It depends on the story and author. I know of several Erotic Romances that would sell fine as mainstream romance. Example Lora Leigh's Breed series comes to mind as one example. In Fact Lora released a romance version of her Tempting the Beast on her yahoo group that was just as good as the Erotic version. Ms. Leigh could have easily sold her Breeds series as romances and it would have sold maybe even better than it did as erotic romance. She did later break into mainstream romance with her Elite Ops series.
