My 'deciding flash' just ocurred. A friend of mine collects guns and knows I read mysteries so left me this book with a recommendation and a brief description. All I know is the protagonist is a game warden who gets involved in a murder mystery and who cannot hit the 'broad side of a barn' (refers to shooting at it I suppose). The book is Open Season by C.J. Box and is the first in a series about game warden Joe Pickett. Onward!
