As I'm sure that many here know, hardboiled detective fiction was invented by a writer named Carroll John Daly. He is not as well remembered as Hammett, Chandler and MacDonald, but I enjoy his stories about his private detective Race Williams.
I notice that today Amazon has two used copies (in good condition) of his Race Williams novel
Murder from the East available for 9 cents. As always, there is the additional $3.99 shipping charge.

Perhaps some of his fans here don't realize that Daly was the grandfather of the actress Tyne Daly.
