I have my Kindle on me everywhere I go. I do also have my phone on me always, but I like to keep that for phone usage and internet. I prefer reading on a larger display such as my Kindle and the battery life on an e-reader kicks a smart phone's a$$ every day of the week. Besides, the main reason why I enjoy my Kindle is that the screen is as big as reading an actual book. No smart phone can offer that.
I have a friend who only reads via his iPhone.
So, in conclusion, my Kindle is larger, always at hand, no glare and doesn't waste the battery as fast.
