I'm pretty sure calibre's built-in viewer is very specifically an EPUB viewer. It just gets the benefit of calibre's format conversion functionality. So if you want to view a mobi or lit or fb2 or whatever format, it does a temporary conversion to epub before displaying.
Good to know information, but that may be why she also stated that fact in her post.
