I vacillated between purchasing the Kindle and the Sony 505 for several weeks until eventually going with the Kindle. The main reason for my decision was that the Kindle's battery is user replaceable. Being in the electronics field, I know what to expect from a rechargeable battery, and how easy it should be to replace one. Having to send an ebook reader back to Sony for a battery when all I have to do with the Kindle is take the back cover off made up my mind for me (Having my Ipod's battery die has influenced my decision also).
After several months of using my Kindle, the only downside is the lack of an Itunes type software to communicate with the unit. Perhaps some forum reader out there has any suggestions?
Hope these few words help with making your decision, good luck!
