Utterly inexplicably, while sitting next to me on the table (unattended), the kindle's screen suddenly flashed "updating software.. please wait" and applied uninstall.bin on its own! No idea how or why that happened, but my kindle is now back to normal, so yay.

Some updates can take a long time. It may have been doing a "disk integrity check", which does not update the display so it could look "bricked" while it is busy.
Only you (or a site moderator) can delete or change the contents of your posts. Click the edit button on that post to change it. There is a minimum length, so you can just stick some smileys in it...
