Perhaps that's AT&T's return policy? If you buy at an Apple Store (as I did), it's 14 days. The reason I know this is that I bought an iPad 2 about 10 days before the announcement of the iPad 3, and I was just in time to return it and buy an iPad 3 as a replacement
