Depends on what you want from the device. I like the STGlow and find the light a real bonus in low-light conditions (it is really, really bright in no-light conditions). The 'text clarity' IMHO is similar to the 1stGenNook, but I find that the onboard glow helps increase the readability in low-light conditions. It's my choice for bedtime reading.

Also, I find it processes book search and page turns noticeably faster off of the micro than my ST.
