You don't need an actual US credit card. Just need to lie about the billing address on yours (apparently they never check) and if outside the US/Canada use a VPN IP proxy set to a US IP.
And it's all for their DRM scheme, which at least doesn't make you download and register extra software with a central server to be able to get the books at all.
