How to avoid whits space when displaying images?

Hi,

i have a book with a lot of pictures in up to 400px in height. If such an image does not fit on the actual page, the rest of the page is left blank and the picture is shown on the next page. Is there any trick to display a picture without having so much white space on the previous page? It is not important that the picture is exactly at the behinning or end of certain sentence. The text can flow before the picture.

Instead of

Code:
+----------+ +----------+
|...............| |XXXXXXXX|
|...............| |XXXXXXXX|
|...............| |XXXXXXXX|
|...............| |XXXXXXXX|
| | |XXXXXXXX|
| | |XXXXXXXX|
| | |XXXXXXXX|
| | |..............|
| | |..............|
+----------+ +----------+
i would like to have

Code:
+----------+ +----------+
|...............| |XXXXXXXX|
|...............| |XXXXXXXX|
|...............| |XXXXXXXX|
|...............| |XXXXXXXX|
|...............| |XXXXXXXX|
|...............| |XXXXXXXX|
|...............| |XXXXXXXX|
|...............| |..............|
|...............| |..............|
+----------+ +----------+
Is there any trick to achieve something like this?
