Wow, the author is a pretentious douche. I just got my kindle last week and while I'm still in my honeymoon phase with it, its all sorts of awesome. I just read 2 books that were still just in hardcover that I was waiting for in paperback. I came across this site when looking for ebook converters and read that article. One of my coworkers who saw it said it helped him make up his mind to buy one himself. He, like me, was waiting for more user feedback and a price drop before purchasing one. Amazon is brilliant for making the device double as a Point Of Sale, once people get past the sticker shock and see one in person I think many will take the plunge to get the reader.
I don't have any illusions about an ebook reader ever being cool, the last straw in my case was injuring my back moving boxes full of sci fi and fantasy books. I sold all my pulp sci fi and fantasy and now I can carry an entire library in a handheld device. In retrospect I could have used a hand truck, and spared my back but it was a wake up call nonetheless. The only thing cool about the ebook reader is it gets all the really dorky stuff off the shelves in my bedroom, which is one less thing to scare off girls
