I loved his Hamlet. It really works for me that Branagh moved it out of it's (pseudo)historical setting; it sort of puts greater focus on the play and I'm less distracted by knowing that Kronborg was build (as a castle) in Shakepspeare's own time and that the earlier version of the story behind the play is somewhat different from Shakespeare's Hamlet. In this adaptation, Hamlet is most definitely Shakespeare's and no-one elses (well, perhaps Branagh's, too, a bit).
