I can't think of anyone else other then David Suchet as Hercule Poirot. Much like Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes.

DH loves Sherlock Holmes and is completely put off by the stupidity of Nigel Bruce as Dr Watson in the old Basil Rathbone movies.
I absolutely agree as to David Suchet and Jeremy Brett. For a long time, I really loved the old Basil Rathbone films, but then when they co-opted him to be a hero of WWII ... well, they lost me there. My Sherlock lived in the late Victorian period not the freaking 1940s.

And, I do think Ms. Rutherford was a wonderful actress ... but the casting was like having Russell Crowe play Mr. Limpet. I just found myself not being able to lose myself in the movies.
