Klear Kase is suppose to be light weight and very strong. It is made from the stuff used to make the windows on fighter planes.

The problem is more likely then not a twisting motion that is breaking the screen. Cases do a good job of preventing the drop on a screen breakage but if an e-reader is in a backpack and ends up somehow being twisted, turn a certain way and the device gets stuck between a couple of books and is twisted as they move with the body. Backpack is not gently placed down in the car set. That type of thing and the screen can break.

The key is to not put you case protected Kindle next to other items that are heavier and might lead to a twisting type pressure depending on the bag you are using and how it gets bumped. My Kindles have always gone in my under the seat carry on, a purse or smaller bag, that contains a netbook (now IPad), snacks, my Kindle, keys, wallet, and IPod. My backpack that carries other stuff that I want with me, just in case, and is heavier, goes above in the over head. I am able to prevent the Kindle from getting whapped around in a bag with heavier objects and reducing the risk of screen breakage.
