Try to look for a local fantasy/SF club. I live in a city a bit below 500 000. We have at least several such clubs, and at least two of them have their own libraries. The one I frequent to has a quite good collection. I had to pay a very low fee to join, and that's it. We meet once a week mostly for board games.

Stars my Destination may be older than 70's, but it has aged very gracefully. The book was ahead of its time. There aren't too many anachronisms.
