I wouldn't totally give up on re-installing the Operating System. The update / re-install experience has been frustrating for many owners with a working eDGe. There are several choices you can try including a modified Dingo version built especially for devices having a problem with the recovery installer. Personally I would try all forms of the OS including the original Dingo 1.3. Please take a look at my Resource Sticky which has some tips for recovering a bricked eDGe, and more importantly links to helpful threads with lots of good information and advice from owners who have actually bricked and fixed their eDGe.

One final option you can try that works quite often with dead laptops is to remove the battery and hold the power button for about 30 seconds and try powering it on with just the charger. However, this will take a little work as you will have to take the back off of the e-reader. Of course, there is no guarantee this will work either and this should be considered an absolute last resort. Here's some photos which will help: http://s280.photobucket.com/albums/k...Pocket%20eDGe/
