I see Amazon using its market position to leverage things. You get better pricing on ebooks from them than anywhere else, but only if you buy a Kindle to read them with.

It will certainly sell Kindles, but that sort of vendor lock in is one of the reasons most of us want ebook standards, so we can buy an ebook and read it on whatever we happen to have.

How many books must you buy at Amazon's discounted price to amortize the cost of the reader to read them? Don't know off hand, but until you've bought that number, your total costs don't really start to drop.
