If you cared for a full-fledged tablet you could always go for the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, it has great specs. However, it is 50$ more than the Kindle Fire.

Otherwise, my vote would go to the Sony Reader as you always have the option of rooting it and installing android apps on it.
