Lightbulb Introdution to gosmore (GPS/OpenStreetMap)

Hi all,

I'm a happy Irex Book user but after some time I wondered why there is no opensource map application for the iliad (or any other device for that matter). Then I stumbled upon this little app gosmore that uses osm files. I already tried the app on my PC(I run Gentoo Linux natively), and found it usable, though it needs some work.
Though I haven't tried it yet, it has the ability use a GPS device to show you where you are.
Since for (most?) GPS devices a serial port is used/emulated, it could be used on the Illiad if there are modules for RS232/USB adapters.
The app is perfect suitable for the CPU of the iliad since gosmore makes extensive use of sorted arrays, integers and fixed point numbers. Only the colours might need some attention for obvious reasons.
It would be a small step to compile it for the iliad, since the app is GTK+ based.

So, here it is. Try it on your (linux)PC and see how it works for you before adapting it for the Iliad. I posted this merely to introduce you to the app in case someone wants to re-invent the wheel

On my behalf: Thank you for all the work that's gone into apps like mrxtv, fbreader, ipdf and of course the games

Greetings,
