I have put off The Silmarillion for years. Every time I start I put it down.
I'm listening to a Tolkien lecture series and the professor maintains that the best way to get through those first sections is to read aloud.
I'm a wussy though...and I already have a good idea what happens to Hurin's family so no matter what I'll skip that section.
