Salut Jelis,
you're right, it can be confusing at first ! but i'm sure you'll be able to figure things out and find the best reader for you.

i know what you mean about books taking up too much space... one of the best things for me since getting my liseuse is being able to give away so many of my paper books, when i replace them with digital editions. i still have too many... and some of them i will always keep... but i've gained a lot of space already and i'm still replacing the old classics which are available for free.

you're right about the format wars ; as consumers, we are always the losing ones in such situations. but hopefully we will be able to standardise the format soon. you may have read about the epub format ; it's a format being specifically created by a standards committee with this in mind. it's not yet fully implemented but things are moving forward. you'll find plenty of information about that here if you're interested.

i hope that the incompatible formats will soon be over. in the meantime, you can try to get around this by keeping to open format editions with no DRM whenever possible. and don't hesitate to write to publishers and let them know how you feel. the publishing industry is just entering this "modern age" as well and we can help them find the best ways (whether they want us to, or not ! ^^).

don't miss the "e-books" section of the site (click on the link at the top left of the page) ; we have a collection of over 5000 (and growing every day) free public domain books which have been formatted by our members. they are beautiful quality editions on every subject. we have a small collection in french as well (i see you live in france), which hopefully will also be growing !

welcome to the forum !
