So I'm thinking about buying a Kindle, but I imagine my library isn't going to transfer and if it does I'll need to reformat it in Calibre, but will still have the DRM problem. Or am i totally wrong or confused.

The T1 is a a very reliable device. My mother has one and my mother-in-law has one and they both work very well. I suggest instead of having to convert your library over to a different format that you stick with ePub and get a T1.
