To wrap it up:

7. What was its port of disembarkation and what were its ports of call before starting across the Atlantic? Cherbourg was the other port of call, picking up the passengers from Paris and the continent.

8. Name people who intended to cross on the Titanic but whose plans changed. Also, Theodore Dreiser, Guglielmo Marconi, Henry Clay Frick and Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt, who would go down on the Lusitania.

9. Name famous survivors. Also, Sir Cosmo and Lady Duff Gordon and Bruce Ismay, director of the White Star Line.

10. Name famous victims (Jack Dawson is an immediate fail.) Impresario Jed Harris, presidential aide Archie Butt, artist Francis Millett.

12. What was the name of the ship which rescued the survivors and who was its captain? Where was it headed? Rostron of the Carpathia; the ship was on a cruise to the Holy Land.

13. What ship did not rescue anyone and who was its captain? Lord of the Californian

15. When the rescue ship reached New York, it stopped at a rival line's pier before berthing at its own dock. Why? The Carpathia had also taken on the Titanic's lifeboats, which it needed to offload at the White Star pier before letting passengers disembark at the Cunard pier.

16. Who was the leader of the expedition that located the wreckage? Robert Ballard

17. Before the Cameron opus, there were two English-language films about the disaster. What were they and who starred in them? The other was called The Titanic and starred Clifton Webb, Barbara Stanwyck and a young Robert Wagner.

18. The Titanic features prominently in many novels. Name books and authors (but please keep it to a significant presence, not a passing mention). Too many to name, of course, but one other prominent novel is Jack Finney's time travel opus, From Time to Time.

Final tally:

Bilbo 6
Sneaky 3
dreams 6
red_pheonix 6
pdurrant 1
Bookpossum 3

Good sportsmanship and a late-stage rally has resulted in three-way tie among Bilbo, dreams and red_pheonix. Any one of them can pose the next quiz.

ETA: I've given red_pheonix credit for Unsinkable Molly Brown, even though it wasn't the other film specifically about the disaster.
