I can confirm the issue with DEP after my Vista Business laptop crashed I could no longer start the Connect reader software. It had never been in the DEP exclusion list but adding it to the list of excluded programs allowed me to restart it. I was actually convinced it was a file or registry key that had been corrupted and tried in vain to re-install, but then came across this thread. Excellent tip. Phew.
