It's actually more impressive than that: they're measuring *installed base*, not sales rate. They outsold the field in less than 6 months.
Their sales rate is lower than iPad but still comparable; around 10 million a year.
Easy to see that the tablet market is new and also pretty clear evidence the market was waiting for something like FIRE.
I may be wrong but, I just don't think the Phone market is either immature or clamoring for an Amazon phone.
