Smile Hello All!

Hello,

I was born and raised in southern Ohio, grew up in a small town right on the river and enjoyed a childhood as wonderful and rewarding as Tom Sawyer's. I was in fifth grade when I discovered the The Bounty Trilogy, a thick creative non-fiction book. It was the first literature to have a profound effect on me. More works I admired were Richard Wheeler's The Bloody Battle for Suribachi (Bluejacket Books), John Hersey's Hiroshima, Erich Maria Remarque's All Quite on the Western Front, and all of John D. MacDonald's Travis McGee stories.
I also read Tolkien novels, Star Trek novels, and various science fiction and war stories.
While serving on active duty in the military I read and enjoyed FASA Corporation's Battle Tech novels, David Drake's Hammers Slammers, and less-known works such as Harold Coyle's Team Yankee. During that time I also discovered Hemmingway, the novel To Have and Have Not my favorite.
After I ran out of things I wanted to read for leisure, I decided to write as a way to give something back, to return the favor of the writers who inspired me. But I didn't want to churn out garbage so I went to college and studied literature and took writing classes and learned the art and craft of writing well enough to make a contribution.
I know my stories aren't for everyone. I'm sure there are more than a few readers who would delete samples of my eBooks with as much vigor as I when I tossed bad novels at the wall. It's understandable and forgivable. After all, Jane Austen fans are rarely Ernest Hemmingway fans, but both novelists have enriched the lives of millions of readers.
