Depends on your brother, I'd guess.
I knew a man who wouldn't carry an umbrella because it was too feminine - he called it a "fem-stick". I called him an idiot. But they're out there.
How does your brother feel about anything that isn't black?
Where I live, Ohio State is huge, so everyone wears red, male and female. I don't think red would have any stigma here.
