Hardware varies, I'm sure, but I wasn't speaking hypothetically. I've installed Windows 7 on the laptop I'm using currently a couple of times, each time without hardware issues. No driver installation was needed.
It was time-consuming, but only because I wanted everything also on my desktop before installing.
