Kindle for android 'on device' versus 'archive'

Hope I'm in the right forum here - apologies if not.

I am running Kindle for Android on a Galaxy GT-p1010 (wiFi only - no 3G) and I'm having problems keeping my current read 'on device'. I travel a lot by plane, so I religiously switch to 'flight mode' (WiFi off) when I get aboard.

So, I open my Kindle software and start reading a book, no problem. Food comes, so I switch off my Android. After food, I switch my Android on and my book has moved to 'Archive'. I don't seem to be able to move it back to 'On device' and I can't open it in 'Archive' because I have no connection.

If the book can move from 'On device' to 'Archive' without a connection, why can't it move back again - or, more to the point, how do I stop it moving in the first place?

I've only noticed this behaviour since upgrading to latest Kindle software (Kindle V3.5.1.1 Android V2.2.1)
