Exactly correct. I have rebuilt dozens of notebooks for family and friends that required driver hunt fun. Best brands for driver support are Dell and Intel IMHO.

Older notebooks are a separate labour of love in their own right. I have had to get drivers from some really bizarre driver sites oft times.
