Maybe if you read 10 short books very quickly you can make your goal?

You won't regret buying the Gideon Olivers, though. They get a lot better starting with the 3rd book* and are really lots of fun.

* And if you did like the direction of the 1st book, which is kind of atypical for the series, Elkins has another series and some standalones which go with that style/plotline instead, only with art theft. You can get useful tips on how to spot and create forgeries to go with the ones on how to tell how people really died by the marks left on their bones.
