That has been my experience with both my nooks, the working and non-working one that they showed up with the battery completely flat. It takes about 3 1/2hrs plugged in to a computer's USB port or about 2 1/2hrs if you use the included adapter (if yours included one) or any other 1amp/5w or higher output USB charger to charge it from 0 to full.
