We cannot, essentially, "make" anyone feel anything. All people are responsible for their own feelings and must, therefore, "own" them.

So, if I say that the robot is not capable of actually sneezing or having his ears itch, it is entirely up to him whether or not he feels inadequate.

His level of adequacy is, therefore, a subset of his own creation of his universe, one in which he is or is not adequate.

Either that or we're all a bunch of wankers. Freud was a bit unclear on that concept.
