I like to tell people that "racecar" is a palindrome. There are only three reactions:
1. "A what?"
2. A brief far-off look in the eyes, followed by a smile or "hey!" or something similar
3. "Everyone knows that."
My favorite reaction is the third, because it's by far the least common reply.
