Wow. Look, we have to promote our books at all the sites where they are published. This is one book out of over 400 titles we have. We have "A" never renewed a book in KDP select and "B" never had a single other complaint about our taking advantage of that program. It's marketing, plain and simple. When the 90 days is up we will pull the book out.

I can tell you that with Crossroad Press, there is little to no chance that a fully published book across all platforms will ever be pulled and put into that program. We only do it with brand new books never published anywhere else - because it has to be exclusive, and our books are published very literally everywhere books CAN be published (or close to it). The time it would take to pull a title fully from Overdrive, EBSCO, Apple, Sony, etc. would just be prohibitive.

We're using this program to help our authors who have low sales at Amazon raise their profile. We do the same thing at B&N with some titles, giving them a 30 day exclusive. I'll say this about B&N - when they work with you they actually work with you...they actually give you promotion.

We've worked long and hard (years) to get the relationships we have, and to learn how most effectively to use these programs. I'm sorry if not having this one book out of 400 in ePub from day one bothers some people, but it's a marketing decision. We have tons of other books by Irving Wallace, most of which are so long they'd take the 90 day wait just to read. (The Man for instance). It will be available across the board when the 90 days are up, and it will never be pulled and put back into the program.

I honestly believe that people who keep almost all their books in that program are cutting out a huge portion of their market AND encouraging people to just wait, because all of their books (eventually) will be free.

Not everyone will be able to take advantage of every coupon or giveaway we do, but we do a lot of them. I hope you'll give us the benefit of the doubt that we are not in any way trying to cut out the ePub readers. My partner and co-editor uses ePub only formats...so he's watching your back.
