There are lots of bad things about DRM but this isn't one of them. There is no restriction, based on DRM, to where and when you can read a book. There is no restriction in this way. That is not how DRM works. DRM limits you from making a copy of the electronic file and giving it away. It may also provide a time out for eBooks checked out from the public library. But for these things paper books are also restricted. i.e. It is difficult and expensive to make a copy of a paper book for you friends (and illegal) and library books have to be returned.
As to reading inside the store. This is not for purchased books, it is to provide a way to browse books you are considering to purchase although it might be possible to read the whole book what standing in the aisle I suppose.
