Okaaay, that probably leaves you with:

* Fixing your font (ie. making your font editor behave, or trying another).
* Using the bci freetype lib from the K2/K3 font hack, which may (or may not) help with buggy rendering on custom fonts. The downside is that it's built for the older CPU used in these devices, so performance may not (or may very well be, I don't have a K4 to run benchmarks on) be up to par.
